Employers take note of this immigration Form I-9 reminder. There have been recent updates regarding your requirements. On Aug. 25, a revised Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification was approved. The revised form will be published by the USCIS by November 22, 2016.
Employers may continue using the current version of Form I-9 (with a revision date of 03/08/2013) until Jan. 21, 2017. After Jan. 21, 2017, all previous versions of Form I-9 will be invalid.
The Form I-9 helps the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) verify the identity and employment authorization of each new employee (including citizens and non-citizens) to work in the U.S. Employers must complete a Form I-9 for every new employee, including non-immigrants, citizens, and non-citizens.
Employers are responsible for completing the Form I-9 and keeping a copy in their records (do not mail a copy to USCIS). Employers may be fined for not completing the form. An “employer” is any employer, including recruiters and referrers who refer employees for a fee.
The Form I-9 has three sections:
- Employee Information and Attestation
- Employer or Authorized Representative Review and Verification
- Reverification and Rehires
