Supplemental Questionnaire Asks About Social Media History
New additions to vetting procedures include asking for social media handles. The supplemental questionnaire now includes a section that asks the applicant to provide the user name for any websites that the applicant has used to create or share content. This includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms. These additions claim to the questionnaire are an effort to prevent national security threats from entering the country.
The questionnaire was a result of President Trump’s call for “extreme vetting” of visa applicants. Although the heightened procedures will remain in effect through November, these procedures may become permanent. While responding to the questionnaire is voluntary, not responding may delay processing of the application.
