Florida Entrepreneurs are Above Average

Florida EntrepreneurFlorida is 30 percent more “entrepreneurial” than the US as a whole, and Floridians are less afraid of risk and more likely to take their businesses global, according to the 2012 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor US Report. Florida’s total entrepreneurial rate is 17 percent, while the national average is 13 percent.

The report also found the following:

–          Nearly 19 percent of Florida entrepreneurs reported that more than a quarter of their customers were based overseas, compared to the national average of 12.4 percent.

–          Many Florida entrepreneurs say they own their own business due to necessity rather than solely for opportunity.

–          Florida males were more than twice as likely to engage in entrepreneurial activities as females, and the greatest activity for both genders is in the age from of 35-54.

The national entrepreneurial activity rate was at an all-time high in 2012. The report suggested that changes in taxes and specific programs aimed at encouraging youth and women to open their own business would greatly benefit Florida.
